Sicilian Defence – Dragon Variation
The Dragon Variation is a popular version of the Sicilian Defence for black, characterised by the moves: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6.
It was named by the Russian amateur astronomer and chess master Fedor Dus-Chotimirsky, who saw a resemblance between black’s kingside pawn structure and the constellation Draco.
As an extremely sharp variation of the already sharp Sicilian, it’s one of the sharpest openings of all.
