Philidor Defence

The Philidor Defence had its heyday in the 19th Century, and is rarely seen in modern master play today. Named after François-André Danican Philidor, it’s seen as a solid though unthreatening response by black to 1. e4 e5 2 Nf3, and continues with the characterising move, d6.
